"Duodenal and Jejunal Peptic Ulcers, Technic of Resection" by Rudolf Nissen, M. D. First edition. Published by Grune & Stratton, New York, 1945. Measures 8.75" x 5.5", 143 pages. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white medical drawings. With a foreword by Owen H. Wangensteen, M.D., Ph.D. The book is in very good condition. The maroon cloth boards are well preserved with bumped corners. The spine is faintly sunned with vibrant gilt lettering. Previous owner's signature in ink on the front endpaper, with notations in pencil throughout the textblock. The textblock is bright with sound binding. Dr. Rudolf Nissen (1896-1981) was a surgeon who made incredible strides in the gastroenterology field, performing the first pneumonectomy by a Western Physician (1931), and developing the Nissen fundoplication, a surgical procedure for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. In 1948 he performed an abdominal surgery on Albert Einstein to treat abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). This surgery extended the scientist's life for several years.
