About this title

Synopsis:

523 objects are described and illustrated on 81 color plates. The book also includes illustrations of lamps, shades, decoration letters, cuttings, signatures, and Durand shapes.

From the Publisher:

At last, a definitive book on beautiful Durand Art Glass! This work features hundreds of pieces in breathtaking color. The author also pays tribute to the remarkable career of Victor Durand Jr., an immigrant from France who became a highly successful glassmaker in early 20th-century America. Victor Durand Jr. and his father, Victor Sr., founded the Vineland Flint Glass Company in Vineland, New Jersey in 1897.

Durand art glass was made in many shapes--covered jars, bowls, vases, perfumers, powder boxes, lamps, rose bowls, finger bowls, wines, goblets, candlesticks, salad plates, and whimsies--and in a variety of decorative treatments. Pieces are carefully described and shape numbers identified. The book also has special sections on shades, decoration letters, cuttings, signatures, and lamps. 1998 price estimates are given for the items pictured. Essential reference for dealers and collectors of American art glass.
