It acted as a market place for the salt trade from the Fens in the east and for the ironworks and potteries in the uplands to the west.
About the Author: Dr Garrick Fincham has excavated widely in East Anglia and his PhD from the University of Leicester was on the Landscape of the Roman Fenland. He lives in Leicester.
