Illustrated with photographs. Near fine, tight example, spine ends a touched bumped. No dust jacket. Biography of Hollywood film legend W.S. "Woody" Van Dyke II. Van Dyke got his start in the late silent film era working with D.W. Griffith and would go on to become one of Metro Goldwyn Mayer's most prolific and popular directors. Known as "One Take Woody" for the efficency with which he worked, he was also a favoive of actors such a William Powell, Myrna Loy, Johnny Weimuller and others since he encouraged the stars to go off scrip and ad-lib. He directed four "Thin Man" films as well as "Tarzan The Ape Man", "Manhattan Melodrama", "Trader Horn" and "The Prizefighter and The Lady" (which featured Woody's favorite actress Myrna Loy and real life boxing champs Jack Dempsey and Max Baer.
