Book Description University Of The State Of New York, Albany, 1898. Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. First Edition. No Visual Expression of the Iroquois or Six Nation Longhouse Confederacy than this excellent study and archaeological presentation of the pottery prior to the contact period introduction of metal pots. Pages 73-146 plus 32 leaves of photos and drawings. The enigmatic faces so similar to the equally enigmatic Irish and Brythonic Celtic faces is as mysterious as the faces. Quite unlike other First Nation pottery. Also helmeted faces, and Clan animals on clay pipes are shown but the Neolithic triangular designs on the square upper 1/3 of the pot are unique to the Iroquoian and Algonquin influenced pots are here seen.(Similar Matriarchal triangular lines are seen in Megalithic chamber tombs in Ireland, Brittany and Spain) These visual symbolic female designs as reinforced by the living Clan mother succession add to the beauty and strength of this book. Tight no writing, and rare NOT a library copy. Some light typical loss and distress to the spine is offset by the clean tight original condition free of writing or underlines covers intact. Very Good Condition 1898 First Edition. The plates are stunning. Even today at Six Nation festivals and Powwows you can see masterful pots still being made by Iroquois artist (We offer some for sale photos on request) who use this book for authentic design.Three Geese In Flight offering Longhouse Books wrapped with care since 1977.
