About this Item

Arguably, many critics believe this is the noted author's best book, an American saga running in time from the Civil War to the First World War, in place from a Connecticut farm to a California valley. Essentially, the story of one family, the Trasks, a father, his twin sons and their errant mother. The James Dean movie encompasses only a portion of the novel. The book is a first edition, first issue, with "bite" for "bight" on p. 281, line 36. The book has a previous owner's name at the top of the front free endpaper, some slight shelfwear, and one bumped corner. The DJ is the second issue: it shows an asterik $4.50 price and the rear panel indicates review blurbs instead of the Steinbeck photograph. There are signs of a wrinkle inside the rear edge where the DJ was incorrectly folded for a time and there is slight chipping on the head and foot of the spine and the corners. Still an acceptable copy. Bookseller Inventory # 001879
