First number with accompanying letter from publisher Rudy VanderLans to Julie Curtiss at Black Sparrow Press gifting the first 2 issues and asking permission to publish John Fante's "The Odyssey of a Wop" in the 3rd issue. Fante's story does indeed appear in Emigre No. 3. Eighth issue, featuring a Charles Bukowski poem, also has a letter from Rudy VanderLans to Black Sparrow Press publisher John Martin thanking him for supporting Emigre. The whole in custom cloth wraparound case. "The focus of Emigre is on the unique perspective of contemporary poets, writers, journalists, graphic designers, photographers, architects, and artists who live or have lived outside their native countries."
