Synopsis: This book, the seventh in a series of all-color books covering the Erie Lackawanna and its predecessors, covers the period between the Erie-Lackawanna merger in 1960 and the arrival of the first of the EL's big, new six-axle road diesels in 1967. It was a period of many transitions and the book delves into such diverse subjects as EMD FTs, commuter trains on the Newark Branch, Alco PAs and FAs, local freights on the former Lackawanna Old Road Branch and the Fairbanks-Morse Train Masters. The book also discusses the reason for the demise of the hyphen in E-L, the various paint schemes of the era, and explains how EL was involved in Alco's decision to offer the C424 and C425 simultaneously. Theere is a 1960 diesel roster as well as a pictorial roster of the various diesel types. All of this information is surrounded by brilliant color photographs with informative captions. 128 pages.
