1st Printing. 209 pages. Published in 2002. Rare photography collectible item. A copy of the Esquire Magazine Japan March 2002 "Photography Annual" Issue. A brilliant production by the Editors of Esquire Magazine: Regular-sized volume format. Glossy pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. The cover features one of Mark Borthwick's images. Contributions by various photographers, a Who's Who of the most brilliant young in contemporary art photography. Printed on glossy stock paper in Tokyo, Japan to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Esquire Japan Magazine's "Photography Annual Issue". Devoted entirely to the current state of photography, the Issue features, among other gems, a portfolio by Mark Borthwick that appears for the very first time in published form: Intimate color portraits of the handsome young photographer and his family. Other portfolios feature the work of Wolfgang Tillmans and some of the most brilliant living Japanese photographers: Shigekazu Onuma, Rinko Kawauchi, Shingo Wakagi, Omori Katsumi, and Risaku Suzuki. The Issue also showcases the work of Nara Yoshitomo, "Days.", a lovely 20-page portfolio that is printed on thick, glossy stock paper, tipped into the magazine, and detachable as a self-contained, full-fledged collection. The portfolio presents "family-album" photographs, the Japanese (and female) equivalent, in effect, of Mark Borthwick's sequence. The Issue also visits some of the finest photography bookstores throughout the world, in Europe, the United States, and Japan. They were all thriving, hopeful, and successful then as a result of a global economic prosperity that made the explosive growth of collecting photography books possible. Many of the stores are gone now, giving the Issue a nostalgic, evanescent, and melancholy feeling. A genuine find. An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for contemporary art photography collectors. This title is now collectible. It is a Japanese Special Photography Edition and should NOT be confused with the parent magazine's US publication. As far as we know, this is the only copy available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare copy thus. Hundreds of plates. Some of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A flawless copy. Bookseller Inventory #
