FIRST EDITION. 12mo. [5]2-134p. Tan paper over boards decorated in green. Born in Riviere Ouelle, Lower Canada, Abbe Henri Raymond Casgrain [1831-1904] was a Roman Catholic priest educated at the Quebec Seminary. He first became known as a writer for his volume of Canadian legends (Quebec, 1861). His most successful work was LA MERE MARIE DE L'INCARNATION (1864) about the establishment of the Ursulines in Quebec. He is regarded as "one of the most graceful and finished writers which the French Canadians possess." (Bibliotheca Canadensis) He also wrote a volume entitled MONTCALM AND WOLFE (Toronto, 1905). Almost no wear to extremities, rear board sightly cupped from dampness, minor dampstain to inside rear cover and last few pages, rear cover slightly soiled, pages browned, else very good/ No jacket.
