About this Item

Title continued: "(State of Nature) considered, in a Dialogue between Philautus and Timothy, To which are added Five Letters, &c.". From a theological library, in a period, full leather binding. The covers are just attached, with cracking and shakiness to both hinges. About one inch by 1-1/2 inches of the leather overlay on the front cover is missing in a corner. Chipping to the spine ends, with a library label on the lower spine. Later gilt lettering on the spine. Library bookplate. The second work "Some Observations." has the title page of The Seventh Edition with a 1705 date, as does the third work "Mr. Hobbs's State of Nature", being the Fifth Edition with a 1705 date. Of the five letters, 3 have their own title pages, two dated 1705, and the last dated 1725. Pagination: 3 frontpapers, Title Page of "Dr. Eachard's Works", (blank), 4 pages of The Preface, 111, (blank), Title page of "Some Observations", (blank), 4 pages of The Preface, 151 pages, (blank), Title page of "Mr. Hobbs's State of Nature", (blank), 4 pages of the "Epistle Dedicatory", 113 pages, (blank), Title page of "A Letter to His Old Dear Friend R. L.", (blank), (with 4 more letters), 76 pages, 3 endpapers. The pages are somewhat browned, but are clean and crisp, and are tightly bound. The first 2 frontpapers are detaching, with browning to the edges, and with some library numbers in the upper corner of the first frontpaper. The book measures about 4-1/2 inches by 7-1/2 inches and is about 1-3/8 inches thick. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 15453
