About this Item

Pp. xvi, 296; 89 text-figures. Publisher's original black pebble cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and in copper-color on the front board, sm 4to (10.25 x 7.5 inches). This is the first book published by the well-known comparative anatomist, the late Sir Wilfrid E. Le Gros Clark. The preface (p. vii) states: "It is the aim of this book to review the comparative anatomical and paleontological evidence which forms an essential basis of speculation on the phylogenesis of the Primates. The problem of the evolution of the Primates is clearly of the greatest interest to all those who concern themselves in the study of mankind. The author hoped that this book would form an introduction to the study from the morphological aspect, and that it will be particularly serviceable to those specialists who are compelled to limit the researchers to one anatomical system, or to the structure of the human body without particular reference to comparative anatomy." From the library of O. Marlin Lee with his signature on the front endpaper and at the top of the title page; also from the library of Roger Leeke with his small attractive bookplate on the front endpaper. Light edge wear to cloth, one out corner with small bump; overall, a bright and clean copy in near fine condition. Bookseller Inventory # 5751
