A clean tight book in very ornately embossed brown-black/bright shiny gilt-lettered hard boards 7 5/8" x 5 1/8" if you count the graceful curve of the spine. 309 clean white pages of text - foxing only to the endpages - the interior is clean. The author emigrated from Germany. She describes the poverty, how Annie became sickly and crippled as a child, her supporting herself by sewing, two evil ladies, a runaway father, travels from Sandusky City to the wilds of Wayne County Ohio. Methodists are there, along with Presbyterians, an unfortunate marriage, friendly Lutherans, the Catholic Priest, life in the Ohio of the Civil War years. Being carried from the house to the Buggy, from the Buggy to the Church, and back again. Tight and firm - it will not lay flat - snaps shut even after 1 1/2 Centuries. There is foxing just to the endpages. The interior is printed on high-quality white paper. No dogears, minimal shelfwear - the spine-ends are chipped, and there is a spot of wearthough, bottom front leading. Condition is Good. No dust jacket.
