Synopsis: Boyds Mills Press publishes a wide range of high-quality fiction and nonfiction picture books, chapter books, novels, and nonfiction

From School Library Journal: ea. vol: illus. by Anita Riggio. unpaged. (Lucas-Evans Bks.). CIP. Little. 1987. PLB $6.70. PreSchool-K Eating and sleeping are recur rent themes in the many books for tod dlers that have been flooding the market for the past few years, and this duo sticks to the formula. Both of these slight books compare the activities of a young child to those of various animals. In I Eat Dinner, the child's place at the table is compared to a dog's place on the floor, a beaver's place in the brook, a pigeon's place in the park. In I Go to Sleep, the same child's place in bed is compared to a bunny in a burrow, a bat in a cave, and so on. The writing is uninspired, and the highly repet itive nature of the text is not likely to in spire requests for rereading. The colorful, cartoonlike illustrations certainly have child appeal, but the significance of animal silhouettes across the top of each page will probably escape most toddlers. The illus trations often do little to visualize the textthe bunny in his burrow looks like he's sleeping in a garden, the horse in his barn could be almost anywhere, and the protagonist bears an unfortunate resem blance to a Cabbage Patch doll. Jeanne Marie Clancy, Wolfsohn Memorial Li brary, King of Prussia, Pa.
