Hardcover in dark brown cloth lettered and decorated in gilt. All edges gilt. Inscribed on the interior " Autographs" page by Society president Erminnie A. Smith with her further notation "(Ka-tci-tci-stci-kwast)". xv+ 4 blank pages for "Autogarphs", 255 pp. With engraved head- and tail-pieces. The Aesthetic Society of Jersey City (New Jersey) was founded by Smith in 1879 as a "society of mutual improvemment for young ladies". It was devoted to the cultivation and education of the beautiful in literature, science and art. Very good, short split to the bottom front gutter and some edge wear to the spine. Gilt bright.
