About this Item

xi, 326 pp, 1 leaf (ads). Original cloth. Near Fine. Copy of Lincoln Gordon, with his signature dated Balliol College, 28 March 1936. Gordon 'served on the Harvard faculty from 1935 to 1961, with long intermissions for government appointments in the War Production Board (1941-45), the U.S. Delegation to the U.N. Atomic Energy Commission (1946), and the State Department in formulation and implementation of the Marshall Plan and NATO (1950-55). Ambassador Gordon served as U.S. Ambassador to Brazil (1961-1966) and then as Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs until 1967. He then was appointed President of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (1967-1971)' (Program for the World Affairs Council's 60th Conference at Asilomar: Global Change: The Balance of Power in 2020, May 57, 2006). His interest in Pigou's work is further reflected by his 'The Public Corporation in Great Britain' (The American Political Science Review, Vol. 33, No. 1, Feb., 1939, pp. 114-115), in which he refers to Pigou. There is an entry for Gordon on the NNDB site. Bookseller Inventory # 17850
