Tarbell (1862-1938), who was influenced by Impressionism and is sometimes dubbed an American Impressionist; he exhibited with the "Ten" who were similarly impressed by French painting. After completing his education in Europe, Tarbell returned to Boston where he taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
