About this Item

Small 4to. Stiff green pictorial wrappers. 69pp. Illustrations, line drawings, map. Very good. Faint edgewear. A tight and attractive first edition, surprisingly uncommon, of this history of the ill-fated ship and biographical sketch by the noted Milwaukee businessman (1926-2013) who co-founded the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970 and brought the great American pastime back to Beertown -- and whose father of the same name (civic leader, chairman of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company) was the namesake of the celebrated Great Lakes freighter S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald that sunk tragically in a storm in 1975, subject of Gordon Lightfoot's evocative "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Best of all, this handsome copy has been inscribed and signed by the author in black ballpoint on the half-title page: "To: Adlai E. Stevenson / With Best Wishes / Edmund Fitzgerald." (Adlai E. Stevenson III, Illinois senator and son of Adlai E. Stevenson II, Illinois governor and twice presidential candidate.). Bookseller Inventory # 40401
