As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. Book Description The School of Living, Suffern, NY, 1948. Soft cover. Condition: Good. This is two separate bound volumes, each with two parts, for a total of four parts. Both books' covers appear somewhat hand-made, because the fronts of both are obviously professionally printed (in green), while the writings on the spines of both are obviously individually done and somewhat rough (in black), while the backs of both are plain. The page count in the first book goes to xiii and then 1-276, while the second goes to v and then 279-719. There seem to be no markings, not even a past owner's name, and the bindings have remained sturdy. But the corners are badly worn, and one is even a bit stained. They definitely look their age. Book Description New York ; London : Harper & Brothers, 1933, 1933. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. [Revised printing?] ; xxii, 194 pages, [6] leaves of plates : illustrations ; 21 cm. ; OCLC: 15583979 ; ncludes an account of the experiment in homesteading carried out in Dayton, Ohio ; blue cloth with red paste-down labels ; no dustjacket ; "This book is written in response to hundreds of requests for some detailed description of the was of life and of the experiments with domestic production referred to in my previous book, This Ugly Civilization. Since the collapse of the great book in October 1929, these requests have greatly increased in number. [M]illions of urban families are considering the possibility of flight from the city to the country. But the realization that there had been for fully half a century a flight of millions from the country to t he city seems to me an essential prelude to consideration of any move back to the land. This migration of millions, back and forth, between city and country, is to me evidence of profound dissatisfaction with living conditions both in the country and in the city. The question to which I have been seeking an answer is whether the way of life described in this book is a way out for a population evidently unhappy both in the city and the country." ; Contents: Flight from the city -- Domestic production -- Food, pure food, and fresh food -- The loom and the sewing-machine -- Shelter -- Water, hot water and waste water -- Education, the School of Living -- Capitall -- Security versus insecurity -- Independence versus dependence -- Postlude -- The new frontier -- Dayton makes social history -- Estimated costs of establishing the Dayton homesteads -- Extracts from the Constitution of the First Homestead Built -- The "City" of refuge ; ex-lib, stamps, labels, wear ; G. Book. Seller Inventory # 007024
