About this Item

In German. Black cloth cover embossed in silver with the title and a decorative pattern on the spine and title and pioneer emblem on the front cover. About 13" x 9.5", 628 pages (plus some ads), extensive photos, line drawing uniform studies, maps, order of battle charts, full-page combat art plates (some in full color) by Döbrich Steglitz. A no-joking "massive history" of the German combat engineers in W.W.I. Begins with dedications by 35 military notables (starting with the Crown Prince and von Hindenburg and working down through "lesser" Generalfeldmarschalls and Generals) , all with facsimile signatures that are worth their weight in research . The major part of the book is divided into three sections: a short history of Army engineers before 1914, engineers in the World War, and a short segment on the continuation of traditions in the postwar Reichswehr. Books of this size and weight are subject to considerable physical stresses, but this copy is quite sound and clean. The cover has light edge/corner wear, light surface scuffs, a small spine ding, light corner bumps, and a shallow edge jam in the rear board. A presentation certificate from famous British militaria auctioneers Wallis & Wallis has been laid in on the front endpaper and the happy recipient added his signature below. The facing pastedown has a couple of small adhesions from a newspaper clipping at the top edge. The front few pages have small corner turns and the top corners have a light inward bend. The outer page edges have a couple of spots of slight roughness that come from kicking around on variuous bookshelves for 75+ years. Overall a great copy. This book is 2" thick and weighs in at over 10 pounds, so expect a request for some extra postage in the U.S. and plan on selling one of your yachts or a summer dacha to finance shipping to international destinations. Store Description

We have provided quality publications and collectibles to readers, collectors, and researchers since 1964. Moving entirely to Internet sales in 1996, we continue to specialize in historical military publications, documents, and military collectibles. A sizable inventory on non-military topics is also available and is (slowly) being added to our ABE listings. We actively purchase military unit histories, ephemera (documents, paperwork, photos, pretty much anything paper), war souvenirs from foreign wars, and general militaria (uniforms, insignia, helmets/headgear, medals, field gear, etc., etc.).
