About this title

Synopsis:

I like to think that most of the poems in this book are about discovery. Finding out what the lesson that is life has taught me and the people I love about happiness, about survival. And taught us about the incredible world we are born into, a world that can be full of amazing things if I can slow down, and explore the part of this universe that is mine, and yours.

There are poems about the discoveries science has given us this past millennium, that are both awesome and frightening. There are poems about the shrinking, swiftly fading natural world that should be our permanent heritage to our children.

Yes, there are poems about the commitment and abandonment between men and women, and the promise of the great love that tears us apart or sometimes bonds us into one perfection.

The poems in this book are not always "pretty" but may frighten or startle as often as they tell of mysterious beauty. Because that´s what seems to happen in the real world. At least, it happened to me. The book is illustrated with my ink line drawings.

About the Author:

Judith Cody´s poetry has been extensively published in literary magazines. Her fearless way with poetry has captured the imagination of readers since she began writing at 8 years old. Dean of Saint Rose´s College, became interested in twelve-year-old Cody´s ability to see the world´s joy and pain through her poems, and taught the youngster at the college without payment. As a high school freshman Judith´s poem won a state wide poetry contest. Later, she was a winner in a national Atlantic Monthly poetry contest. She also composes music and her well reviewed book on a contemporary composer, "Vivian Fine: A Bio-Bibliography," was published by Greenwood Press in 2001.

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. has placed Judith´s lovely, lyrical poem, and her other papers, commemorating the United Nations Women´s Year, in its permanent collection.

Always reaching out to people, Cody has read many poems on FM radio and television stations. She has read her nature and science poetry at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA; the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge; numerous other national and local groups.
