About this Item

8 color plates, 11.5" x 16.5", each, loose as issued, in portfolio, cloth-backed boards, with printed paper label (in color) mounted on cover. Title on label. The front and rear boards have become separated and are worn at the edges and corners. Two of the plates are slightly chipped, without affecting the images. Seven of the paintings in the portfolio, "With the Eye of the Mind", "Indians Simulating Buffalo", "The Snow Trail", "On the Southern Plains in 1860", "The Warrior's Last Ride", "The Dead Men", and "The Pool in the Desert" were all published in Collier's Weekly, except "The Sentinel", which was issued only as a separate print; three of the other paintings were issued as separate prints before appearing in Collier's following Remington's death in 1909. All of the prints are listed and illustrated in color in Peggy & Harold Samuels, Remington, The Complete Prints (1990). Scarce; NUC locates only two complete copies. Bookseller Inventory # 022744
