This is a collection of the art and stories of 17 !Xun and Khwe artists who live and work in South Africa. Members of two San communities that were displaced by decades of war in Angola and Namibia and recently resettled in the semi-desert of the Northern Cape, these men and women belong to the !Xun and Khwe Art and Culture Project, whose work has become well known and appreciated in both South Africa and Europe. This book was published in 2002 and is now out of print.

Published in 2002, this book is now out of print, while most of the San artists featured in My Eland's Heart has passed away. This book has since become a collector's item that curates their legacy. Our eExhibition at features more of the artists' poignant stories, music and art.
