About this title
Since the 1960s, Americans have debated how much damage is done when TV networks proclaim the next president while polls in the western states are still open. The controversy was reignited in 2000 by unjustified projections and again in 2004 by exit polls leaked prior to projections. Past academic studies, rather than settling the debate, have produced conflicting findings. Taking a close look at the controversy, the goal of this book is to develop a more comprehensive understanding, if not resolution, of the central issue: do projections decrease voter turnout?
