nd. DNB says first published in 1790, but the third edition published Dublin, in 1789. pp.226-228 contain extracts from Cowper's collection, 'The Task' published in 1785. Both the second and third editions are described as such on their title pages, so I suspect that this volume is a first edition published between 1785 and 1789. No author given but the book is edited by Vicesimus Knox. 5½ x 8½? pp. [6] + vi + [6] contents + 720 with engraving to title page. Good in full calf with gilt title on red label to spine with 5 raised bands with gilt margins. Corners bumped and small pieces of leather missing from spine. Hinges weak but the book is still firm. Contents very good with slight browning to page margins but no stains, marks, labels or stamps. No dust jacket.
