Description:

Hardcover. Half leather binding, with brown cloth over boards. Original title label and five raised bands on leather spine. This is a contemporary binding & it is a bit tight, inelegant, but it does the job. This is the first American edition, published 1801 in Boston. 456 pages -- complete. Corners are rounded, but all pages legible. Frontispiece was torn and in rough shape but has been stabilized on the blank side. Philip Dormer Stanhope, or Lord Chesterfield, was a British statesman, and man of letters, and wit. This is a relatively early copy of his handbook for success. Bookseller Inventory #
