About this title

Synopsis:

The first book of The Elohoic Verses trilogy, Mythos of Elohim develops a spiritual encounter into a poetic lyricism whose themes alternate between two realities. The first a world at once deceptive, cruel, impersonal, and chaotic, and the second redeemed from itself, emanating from its own roots, aware of its own sourcesthis poetry is not an echo or an imitation but a response to a Calling whose depths cannot be analyzed. The long narrative poem, oddly titled The Death of Iaoldaboath, provides a psychological summary of history, of what made history from a gnostic point of view, then shifts into a paranoid pretensive Lazarus, giving the historical record a mystical Christian twist at the end. As disturbing a poem perhaps as Yeats' The Second Coming this is a book of poetry which has at last bridged the gap between a narrow channeling of academic language into a powerful synthesis for spiritual and cognitive recognition. Lysons' poetic voice will long be heard into the next century.

About the Author:

Mr. Patrick L. Lysons Born Douglas, Arizona in 1946. MA English 1973 from Northern Arizona University.

Mr. Lysons, lives and writes in the American Southwest. A native of Arizona, his first published poem appeared in the Rocky Mountain Poetry Quarterly in the Fall of 1979. Since then, the majority of his poetry has been enjoyed by a few friends and admirers. A teacher since 1969, he has retired to devote full time to writing poetry, taking long walks in Arizona forests, and developing his business. Mythos of Elohim is the first book of a poetic trilogy that takes its themes from postmodernism, existentialism, and an emerging alternative culture that was born in the 1980's.
