About this title

Embroidery from Sketch to Stitch is a richly satisfying exploration of the textural qualities of fabric and thread, paper, paint, crayons and dyes. They are interpreted here in evocative portraits of Australia's Flinders Ranges and Red Centre, gardens in New Zealand, fruits and flowers, and theatre and harbour scenes from Great Britain. The embroideries are accompanied by brief notes from the artist setting their mood. An unusual and special section at the end of the book outlines the techniques and processes employed in creating each work, together with notes which provide a fascinating insight into the world of the artist at work.

From Booklist:

Ever wonder what sparks an artist's imagination? For one multimedia artist, the answer's clear: Langford finds creativity through natural phenomenon, such as gardens and boat harbors, and through human-made wonders, such as piers and acting performances. What is unusual here is the depth to which the author plumbs the sources of her inspiration. A panoply of approximately 50 works, in color and with a bit of explanation (somewhat hard to read since it's printed in gold script on a black background), is augmented by description of techniques used in each artwork, accompanied by a black-and-white outline of the piece's pattern.
