About this Item

Tone, 1" chip at top of front cover, edgewear with light chipping, otherwise light wear. Solid trade paperback. ; German language. "Philipp Frank (March 20, 1884, Vienna, Austria-Hungary – July 21, 1966, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) was a physicist, mathematician and also an influential philosopher during the first half of the 20th century. He was a logical-positivist, and a member of the Vienna Circle. He was influenced by Mach and was one of the Machists criticised by Lenin in Materialism and Empirio-criticism." - Wikipedia. Frank was a core member of the Vienna Circle, and this influential article on The End of Mechanistic Physics, published in the Vienna Circle journal Einheitswissenschaft shortly before his forced emigration to the United States, supported his thesis that "scientific ideas can best be explained by explicitly showing how they are used and what roles they play in various contexts." - Peter Weibel; Beyond Art; page 268. One of the final works published before Nazi Germany swallowed up Austria, and the Vienna Circle (and Frank) dispersed to safety abroad, spreading the philosophy of Logical Positivism. ; Einheitswissenschaft; Vol. 5; 35, (1) pages.
