It includes a detailed account of French attempts to establish a colony, and the text of the memoir of Solis de las Meras, an eyewitness to the massacre of John Ribault and his companions. The work actually covers the early explorations of North America north of Mexico and east of the Pacific, including De Soto, La Salle, Cabeza de Vaca, and others.
