first edition, so stated; slight shelfwear, previous owner's inscription on the front free endpaper, in exceptionally good condition, rated Near Fine; clipped dj is frayed with chips and tears on the top and bottom edges, foxing on the inside, but mostly intact, rated Fair+; from the McGraw-Hill series in health science; would be of interest to collectors of books on the history of 20th century medicine, the treatment of epilepsy and convulsive disorders, especially in children; this book is inscribed by my mother, Margaret Gilbert, an RN and educator, who taught pupils K through 12 in a "one-room schoolhouse" at the National Institutes of Health in Washington during the 1950s and 1960s; the children lived at NIH and were being observed and treated by doctors and researchers using the most advanced medical techniques known at the time in an attempt to understand and halt their conditions, epilepsy being one of the chief diseases; rare in dj; the association may be of interest; cloth covers are dark red with gilt lettering and the publisher's logo on the spine; dj is beige and cobalt blue, with beige and blue lettering on front, spine, and back; large 8vo - 9 1/4 inches high, xiv + 670 numbered pages.
