About this Item

A Near Fine copy in a Very Good unclipped dust jacket with some shallow chipping to the extremities. Ernest Christopher Dowson (1867 – 1900) was an English poet, novelist, and short-story writer, often associated with the Decadent movement. Dowson is best remembered for such vivid phrases as "Days of Wine and Roses" and "gone with the wind": Margaret Mitchell, touched by the "far away, faintly sad sound I wanted" of the third stanza's first line, chose that line as the title of her novel Gone with the Wind. This biography of the notable English lyric poet addresses many of the misconceptions about his personality drawing on unpublished letters twelve from Oscar Wilde and detailed information gleaned by the author in interviews and correspondence with those who knew the poet intimately.
