About this Item

This Bible contains 2 sets of Peterson family records. Loosely inserted in the Family Records section are 4 pages (2 leaves) of earlier family records that were removed from another Bible. They are the entries for Esaias Peterson of Duxbury, Mass. who married Lydia Holmes of Kingston, Mass. on July 3, 1805. An additional 7 entries are for the marriages of 7 of their 10 children with the dates between 1831 and 1845: Lydia to William Blake; Elisha to Ann Glover; Esaias Jr. to Ruth Taylor; Nancy to William Soule; Adeline to George Peterson; Zephaniah S. C. to Harriet Taylor; and Nehemiah to Laurelia (?)Winson. The birth dates of Esaias on Dec. 12, 1782, and Lydia (Holmes) on April 26, 1779 are given, together with the birth dates of their 10 children: Lydia, Eliaha, Esaias Jr., Zephaniah S. C., Marcia, Adeline, Nehemiah, Martin, Nancy, and Otis; who were born between 1805 and 1824. There are 5 death records, four with dates of children who died in infancy, and one record for Ruth, the wife of Esaias Jr. who died at the age of 33. The other family record section is for the family of Esaias's and Lydia's 8th child - Martin Peterson, who married Adaline A. Childs on Jan. 2, 1848. The birth dates of their seven children: Mary L., George M., Edgar, Wentworth, Fred L., Lawrence B., and Charles H.; and one grandchild: George W. Lane are given, all of whom were born between 1849 and 1867. There are marriage records: Martin Peterson to Adaline A. Childs on Jan. 2, 1848; Mary L. Peterson to Alexander Lane on Dec. 30, 1864 (?66); and George M. Peterson to Emma Robinson (no date). 3 deaths are recorded. Tucked into the Bible are a 1907 (or later) undated, young child's letter to "Grandma" from "Muriel"; and a five line poem from a young boy "Stanley", undated but circa 1880-1920. The front inner cover has the inked name of "Eddie Peterson". The Bible needs to be rebound since the binding has split at the family records section, where the insertion of the additional 4 pages has broken the binding. The Bible is a thick 8vo, bound in full, rubbed leather, with one cover detached and the spine chipped 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Square. Bookseller Inventory # 15091
