About this Item

An unusual trade catalogue of Esmond Blankets offered for sale by John L. Morgan Co., Binghamton, New York (their name imprinted on Esmond Company label on front cover). The catalogue is 16 x 9 1/4 inches; on the plates, each printed on one side only on 11 leaves, are beautifully colored examples of Esmond blankets: jungle robes, baby blankets, doll blankets, Indian blankets and others. Interspersed between the plate leaves are five 14 1/2 x 8 1/2 samples of some of the blankets illustrated, including the jungle blanket and the Indian blanket. Decorative cardboard covers bound with metal fasteners. Internally quite good with some chipping to plate edges; samples in fine condition. Covers brittle with some cracks and pieces taped inside cover where once torn or torn off; unfortunately a very amateur job. Still, Covers are lovely and again, internally in very good condition. Rare. The textile industry in Smithfield, Rhode Island was quite large at one time. At the beginning of the 20th century mill villages sprouted throughout the city, one being the Esmond Mill Village where the Esmond Company thrived. This catalogue which appears to be from about the 1920s actually contains samples that could have been used through the 1940s. Bookseller Inventory # 384
