About this Item

Brown cloth decorated in blind. 482 pp. With a few illustrations throughout. A work studying the various systems, organs and function of the human body, while discussing at length procreation and pregnancy. Short sections discuss marriage and prostitution, with Nichols arguing for divorce when desired. In discussing prostitution, Nichols asserts it is a phenomenon that cannot be stopped due to supply and demand, and as such, efforts should be focused on the health and welfare of the prostitute. Health and disease are covered, as well as the use and principles of the water cure. Thomas Low Nichols was a dietician and author, promoting free love, spiritualism and healthy eating (see Cambridge Dictionary of American Biography). FAIR condition. Pages 217-226 DETACHED and laid in. Heavy fading, general discoloration, some spotting, soiling and staining to the covers. Cloth very worn along the extremities. Text block weak but intact. Scattered foxing and minor dampstaining throughout. Bookseller Inventory # 010506
