Lea (formerly Lea & Blanchard). the author was Professor of the Principles and Practice of Medicine, and of Clinical Medicine, in Bellevue Medical College, New York. This is a compilation of articles by Dr. Flint published earlier. Dr. Flint defines "conservative medicine" as the practice of limiting extreme or "heroic" measures in favor of conservation of the "life forces." He also devotes a chapter to "Divine Design as Exemplified in the Natural History of Diseases." There is extensive description and discussion of earlier medical practices in treating specific maladies and diseases, with separate chapters on how conservative medicine applies to therapeutics and to hygiene, and on medicine in the past, present, and future; alimentation in disease; tolerance of disease; and the agency of the mind in etiology, prophylaxis, and therapeutics. Black hard cover with light bumping at the extremities and one tiny nick; interior fine but for the an inscription on the front free endpaper (Dr. T.
