An extraordinary vellum binding with relief and painted work, depicting two religious scenes. 32mo. 94 by 58 mm. Unpaginated, 38 leaves, or approx. 72 pp. Copper engraved frontis and title, and a two paged map of France on the final pages. Regarding the cover paintings, which we would regard as the paramount feature of this particular almanac, we presume the front cover is of Mary and the baby Jesus, while the back cover is of Adam and Eve, but particularly the latter might be debatable. In the former, a seraph is blowing a horn from above. Silk lined packet or compartment in the rear. In these paintings, the paint is now darkened generally and color loss has occurred, but they remain striking examples of what might be regarded as folk art. A large dampstain afflicts the top of the pages, larger in the front, and gradually shrinking in size and darkness but not going away by the end. Bookseller Inventory #
