Published by Columbia University Press in collaboration with AB ALLHEM Publishing House. Translated from the Swedish. According to the colophon page, "This volume was produced in Malmö, Sweden, 1962. The text is letterpress work, the black and white illustrations are printed in sheet fed gravure. The color plates are partly in 4-7 color offset, partly in four-color blocks, most of the latter produced in ALLHEM's chemigraphic department. The Maps, facsimiles and other offset reproduction were made in the ALLHEM lithographic department. The binding was done in the ALLHEM bindery." Heavy-duty boards bound in off-white linen [or linen-like] cloth, with gilt-stamped lettering and design to the front board and to the spine. 11.75 x 9 inches. Unbumped spine head and tail, with sharp corners. Text block firmly bound in. T.E.G. Charming pictorial pastedowns. With 478 numbered pages, and with numerous full-page plates and maps, many in color and on semi-glossy stock. Includes fold-out maps. Also with numerous B&W archival photos, figures and drawings. An immensely clean copy, and rather tight. Very gently read. The full-pictorial dust jacket is unclipped. DJ with rubbing along the edges and to the spine. With the original medium-duty slipcase., the slipcase somewhat age-yellowed and with minor rubbing here and there. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good DJ in a Very Good slipcase.
