About this Item

Hardcover no dj. Very good condition; edges, corners, and covers of book show minor wear. No underlining; no highlighting; no internal markings. No Dust Jacket. Gilbert Murray, M.A. LL.D. translates Electra into English rhyming verse here. This is a first printing thus and is inscribed by Sydney Cockerell (William Morris' business partner) as follows: "To May Morris from SCC, Christmas 1905." May Morris was William Morris's daughter. Thus this copy is priced as an association piece. Electra is the story of Agamemnon, who killed in emotional fury, his mother and her paramour. This gift from Cockerell to Morris's daughter is particularly revealing when seen in the light of Morris's wife Janey's long-term and semi-open affair with Dante Gabriel Rossetti. This copy has normal edgewear, and is clean, straight and tight. Stored in sealed plastic protection. In the event of a problem we guarantee full refund. 1947. Hardcover no dj.
