About this Item

4to., (12 x 9 2/8 inches). Original orange cloth backed illustrated paper boards by S.T. Retzerott (central vertical crease nearly broken, a bit worn and stained); preserved in modern brown morocco backed clamshell box. Presented by The Princeton University Triangle Club 1915-1916, with lyrics to 18 songs by Fitzgerald. First edition of Fitzgerald's third appearance in print, and the second of three shows for the Princeton Triangle Club, at the time an all-male revue. In September 1913 Fitzgerald entered Princeton University as a member of the class of 1917 and met "John Beale Bishop and Edmund Wilson, who became lifelong friends. Fitzgerald was active in the Triangle Club, which produced musicals, and in writing for college publications, such as the 'Nassau Literary Magazine'. In early January 1915, during his Christmas vacation, .Never a keen student, Fitzgerald spent too much of his time writing and acting in Triangle shows, working on the 'Princeton Tiger', and participating in other extracurricular activities. In December 1915 Fitzgerald dropped out of Princeton because of poor grades and for health reasons; when he returned he became a member of the class of 1918" (Robert A. Martin for DNB).
