First US edition, first printing (No additional printings noted as per the custom of this publisher). A gorgeous, fine book (crisp, unread) half-bound in textured grey cloth stamped in red, and half in black cloth stamped in red and white. The covers are pristine ('as new') and the corners are sharp. There is a touch of foxing on the top-edge, but none on the other edges. The bright, unfaded dustjacket is near fine, with some rubbing to the spine tips and edges, and a couple of short closed tears, but virtually no missing paper. The jacket is neatly price-clipped, but the oversized flaps are not wrinkled or creased. A presentation copy, beautifully inscribed by one of the editors, Arthur Pell, on the front end page: "To Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hyde / most gracious hosts / a book of Japanese charm / from / Arthur Pell / March 20 /1973".
