This work ("Exposition of the practices and machinations which led to the usurpation of the Crown of Spain, and the means adopted by the Emperor of the French to carry it into execution") as it is known in English, was a bestseller in 1808 with Spanish-language editions in Madrid, Malaga, Mexico, Valladolid, Valencia, and Mallorca; English-language ones in London, New York, and Boston; a Portuguese edition at Lisbon; a Swedish one at Stockholm; and a surreptitious one in French. An important, early, work on Napoleon's invasion of Iberia and the diplomatic history of the same. The main text is dated Sept. 1, 1808. The whole is reprinted from the Madrid edition. Folios [22] to the end contain "Documentos justificativos." Provenance: John Carter Brown University, with its small "released" stamp on the rear free endpaper. Small 4to (18.5 cm; 7.25"). [39] ff. Medina, Mexico, 10063. 19th-century quarter cloth with boards; hand-lettered paper author/title label on front cover. Fore-margins closely cropped occasionally costing a final or initial letter.
