Small Broadside. 380mm x 240mm. Single sheet, printed black on white paper on one side only. Sometime folded, small triangular piece from top left hand corner, very lightly browned at the top, couple of small insignificant closed tears in the folds, otherwise a clean intact copy. Text within a decorative border with floral corner pieces. Four numbered extracts, Section numbers 77; 80, 81; and 82, from the Municipal Corporations Act 1835. The Act was passed in parliament which required the 178 Royal Boroughs in England and Wales to set up professional police services. The Extracts outlines the terms of employment, and financial remuneration etc; for Police Officers. Sec. 82 , notes -' the treasurer of every borough . shall also pay such further sums as the Watch Committee shall l award to any of the persons belonging to the said Constabulary force, as a reward for extraordinary diligence or exertion, or as a compensation for any wounds or severe injuries received in the performance of their duties . .' This was followed in 1839 by a similar Act which allowed areas to set up their local police service at county level. A seemingly unrecorded surviving example of provincially printed ephemera, the Library Hub Discover (on-line 01/2024) does not trace any copies.
