About this title

Synopsis:

In June of 1989 the newly elected Executive Board of Officers of The Seattle Yacht Club Women's Group decided to publish a cook- book. The purpose of this book was that by sharing our recipes for boating and entertaining with others, we could also raise funds to support non-profit boating organizations in the community. Commit- tee Chairmen Gail Johnson and Carol Kessi were appointed and the project was begun. A cookbook committee was chosen to represent the wide range of SYC members. The Puget Sound region is the boating capital of the U.S. with more people (per capita) owning boats than anywhere else. It is part of our lifestyle to entertain on boats or near the water. The Seattle Yacht Club is the sponsor for Opening Day of Boating each year in May highlighted by a large parade of decorated boats. Extraordinary Cuisine for Sea and Shore was planned with a focus on boating as an activity important to SYC members. All kinds of boats are included in these activities, from those with an ice box and alcohol stove, to those that have microwaves and freezers. The recipes are not limited to boating but are planned to enhance enjoyment of boating and enter- taining on board our boats. Some recipes specifically are useful on long cruises where grocery stores are few and far between. Others are best prepared ahead and taken on board, or simply enjoyed at home. We have tried to include helpful hints pertaining to boating and cooking on board. We have included a map showing our cruising waters and our Seattle Yacht Club Outstations. Since we are preparing to celebrate our centennial we share with you the history of our organization. Our Pacific Northwest waters offer a plentiful supply of fresh seafood and we encourage you to use fresh whenever you are fortunate enough to have it available. We hope that you find Extraordinary Cuisine for Sea and Shore helpful and informative as well as enjoyable. SEATTLE YACHT CLUB COOKBOOK COMMITTEE
