About this title

Synopsis:

Black-and-white photographs, accompanied by anecdotes and commentary, offer timeless images of American politics and presidents, from FDR to George Bush

From Library Journal:

This collection of photographs covers all U.S. presidents from Franklin Roosevelt to the current incumbent. Tames has been a White House staff photographer for the New York Times for 45 years, beginning with the 1944 presidential election. He was named Photographer of the Year three times and White House Photographer of the Year 17 times by the White House press corps. Several of Tames's photos, especially those of Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy, are classics. There is a chapter devoted to each president, introduced by a series of Tames's remembrances of that president. In general, however, these anecdotes tend only to confirm the popular images of each president with few new insights. Even the photos selected for each president are often not that interesting or relevant. Strictly an optional purchase.
