About this Item

No place (U.S. newspapers?): 1936, folio (14-1/4" x 11-1/4"), 144 pages of newspaper articles from major U. S. newspapers illustrated with maps and photos in each volume. EACH ARTICLE IS DATE STAMPED. A very good set. I counted the number of articles in one volume (Sept. 15th - Nov. 21st.) and there were 654. Prorating this count, the number of articles could be as high as 3900-4000. In this distinct volume, 147 were on Chinese-Japanese relations, 125 on China, 193 on Japan, 24 on Manchukuo, 50 on the Philippines, 50 on the Pacific as well as other countries such as Hong Kong, Formosa, Siam and Tibet. The following are six headlines from this distinct volume: "Egg Smelling is an Art Highly Prized in China"; "Barber Shaves General, 4 Pistols at his Head" (China); "Shantung Youths Scorn Girls With Bound Feet"; "Peiping Bars Ban Smoking"; "Chinese Devise Thresher to Replace 20 Coolies"; "Geisha Girls Win Strike for Decrease in Fees". Presented is a rare overview from one distinct year chronicling not only cultural events but natural disasters and the underlying political turbulence throughout Asia at the time. A very rare compilation!. Bookseller Inventory # 010800
