Michael Jenks built a sawmill in 1803 in what is now known as Jenksville in the town of Newark Valley, Tioga County. Captain Scott and Thomas Baird were early settlers of the West Creek area. James and Emannuel Van Etten, Brothers arrived in the year 1798 and settled on the site of the present village of VanEttenville, now in Cheumng County, NY.
