First printing (as stated upon copyright page). xii, 257 pages. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13.25cm. Dust jacket with color pictorial front panel and b/w illustration to rear panel; dj rubbed with minor chipping, nicks, and creasing at edges, scuffing at spine heel; 7cm tear descending from head of spine's fold with lightly soiled rear panel; slender abrasion at top of rear flap with 3.75cm tear at head of fold; front flap's corners both clipped but with original $3.75 printed price still present; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Brown cloth with black lettering to spine and front board. Some foxing to edges; toning/foxing to endpapers which are illustrated with Caribbean region maps; occasional light foxing to interior pages which otherwise remain clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy in a very good- dust jacket. Classic ornithological reference by the American-born, British-educated James Bond who eventually rose to Curator of Ornithology at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Academy of Natural Sciences. Bond was also the namesake of Ian Fleming's British Secret Service agent as the ornithologist and author enjoyed at least a casual friendship. Designed to be a useful reference for the roving bird watcher, FIELD GUIDE TO BIRDS OF THE WEST INDIES features extensively revised text from Bond's more extensive and quite scarce 1936 monograph BIRDS OF THE WEST INDIES.
