The first U. S. edition. A couple of corners gently bumped, spines of both volumes age-darkened with rubbing to the gold titling, else are solid very good copies, each illustrated with a few photos. Wilson joined the British army in 1885 & began his diaries in 1893, keeping them until his death in 1922. The books cover the Boer War, Wilson's work as Director of Military Operations at the War Office, drawing up the plans that sent the BEF to France in 1914. The majority of the books cover World War I, where he commanded IV Army Corps at the battle of The Somme in 1916, ending as Chief of the Imperial General Staff at the end of the War, replacing Field Marshal Robertson in early 1918.
