About this Item

First American edition. Translated by Mary Herms. Von Moltke was a German Field Marshall who, in 1857, was given the position Chief of the Prussian General Staff, a position he held for the next 30 years. He made changes to the strategic and tactical methods of the Prussian army; in armament and means of communication; in staff officers' training; and to the method for the mobilization of the army. He also instituted a formal study of European politics in connection with plans for potential campaigns. In short, he rapidly put into place the features of a modern General Staff. Full cloth with gold lettering and front design. Minor wear on corners and spine ends, but still very good overall. Bookseller Inventory # 49729
